One of the UK’s leading nurseries will be launching its 2018 promotional catalogue at the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) National Plant Show this month (June, 2017). The popular garden bloom, traditionally offered as a romantic gesture, topped the poll of 2,000 UK adults – fending off competition from lilies which nabbed second spot. Green light for spring sales at Laurica Plants


Jabbeke-based Laurica Plants reports its nursery fields are looking greener as spring marked the transfer of its premier baytrees to the outdoors, though younger plants remain in the greenhouses as they are more fragile. Existing customers should now be feeding and watering their plants to ensure these high quality baytrees remain in prime condition. Charity warns rare plants in the UK are at risk of extinction


Some of the UK’s rarest plants are at risk of extinction unless action is taken to look after the road verges that have become their final refuge, a charity has warned. Species such as fen ragwort and wood calamint are now only found on road verges, with fen ragwort hanging on in just one native spot near a burger van on the A142 in Cambridgeshire, conservation charity Plantlife said. Other plants such as sulphur clover, crested cow-wheat and wood bitter-vetch have lost much of their habitats in meadows, pastures or woodlands and are now most frequently found on the side…

Fern sales up 44% year on year for Wyevale Nurseries


Fern sales have seen a surge at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford as it announces a 44% year on year increase (March 2016 until the end of March 2017). The company says it feels this is due to the plants being on trend in the retail, amenity landscape and domestic landscape markets. Public names its favourite Cosmos


More than 1000 visitors to RHS Garden Wisley voted in a poll to name their favourite garden Cosmos cultivar as part of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)’s annual People’s Choice Competition, with Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Cupcakes White’ earning the top spot. Cosmos had been chosen by Fleuroselect as Europe’s plant of the year for 2016, who together with the RHS worked on the promotion and trialling of this genus.
