Jabbeke-based Laurica Plants reports its nursery fields are looking greener as spring marked the transfer of its premier baytrees to the outdoors, though younger plants remain in the greenhouses as they are more fragile. Charity warns rare plants in the UK are at risk of extinction

Some of the UK’s rarest plants are at risk of extinction unless action is taken to look after the road verges that have become their final refuge, a charity has warned. Species such as fen ragwort and wood calamint are now only found on road verges, with fen ragwort hanging on in just one native spot near a burger van on the A142 in Cambridgeshire, conservation charity Plantlife said. Fern sales have seen a surge at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford as it announces a 44% year on year increase (March 2016 until the end of March 2017). The company says it feels this is due to the plants being on trend in the retail, amenity landscape and domestic landscape markets.
