The Dutch Horticultural Council is one step closer to securing Almere as the next location for Floriade in 2022. The city of Almere and the Nederlandse Tuinbouwraad (NTR) have reached agreements with the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), which checks that the event meets the requirements of an A1 category exhibition.
Floriade Amsterdam Almere 2022 will have the theme ‘Growing Green Cities’, focusing on the future role of horticulture in city construction. Bernard Oosterom, vice president of AIPH, said: “This is a great way to show the world what green is and what the horticulture sector is able to do. The Netherlands has a great heritage of Floriade Expos and I am confident that Almere will do a great job in continuing this tradition.”
The City Council of Almere approved plans last July for organising the exhibition, with three final agreements being signed on the 1st September this year. The NTR signed two further agreements regarding the use of the logo and word mark, along with planning the details of the next seven years before the Floriade.
Nico Kooment, president of the NTR, commented: “This agreement is the written embedding of the intention to make Floriade Amsterdam Almere 2022 a big success.”
Following approval from the AIPH, the government is now able to make the formal request for the Floriade at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris.
