Garden centre gets involved in multiple sclerosis fundraiser

Wyvale Garden centre at World’s End gets involved in multiple sclerosis fundraiser.

Supporters will saddle up on static bikes during the Bank Holiday weekend and cycle the equivalent of 300 miles to raise money for sufferers of multiple sclerosis.

Members and supporters of the Chiltern MS Centre in Wendover will be using pedal power over the three days to raise money to enable the centre to continue its care.

MS affects around 100,000 in the UK, and symptoms include fatigue, problems with vision and difficulties walking but these vary from person to person.

The specialist centre provides 280 treatments each week – mainly physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy and acupuncture. Emotional and social support is also offered to members and their carers.

The annual cycle event raises hundreds of pounds for the centre, which needs £750,000 a year to run, and it relies heavily on donations and fundraising as it only receives a small grant from the NHS.

Riders will be getting expert advice from Melanie Heaton, a former member of Great Britain’s triathlon team, over the weekend and she will even be clocking up some miles herself.
