The 150 staff at the Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown have a new General Manager. Matt Hill, who started with Haskins as a retail assistant at the centre in 1995 has returned to Ferndown as the General Manager. Since 2006, Matt Hill has been both Assistant General Manager and then General Manager at one the sister centres at West End, Southampton.
Matt, the son of well-known local horticulturalist and sweet pea expert Chris Hill, takes the position in the centres 20th anniversary year during which the centre gained a Highly Commended Certificate and 6 merit awards for the facilities following strict audits carried out by the Garden Centre Association inspectors.
Julian Winfield, Haskins Chief Executive, said that he is delighted that Matt has returned to Ferndown where his career progression started almost 20 years ago after studying horticulture at Kingston Maurward college.
“As our longest established purpose built centre, the pressure is always on to ensure that the high standards, which are appreciated by our loyal customers, are maintained,” said Julian Winfield. “Matts successful leadership qualities demonstrated in Southampton will ensure the ongoing success at Ferndown.”
The purpose built Ferndown centre was opened on the 10 acre site in March 1994. Turnover at the popular destination centre now exceeds £10 million per annum.
