WYEVALE Nurseries is next week (September 12, 2016) entering five new plants in to the New Product Awards at Glee held at the NEC in Birmingham.
The company has submitted Ligustrum sinense ‘Sunshine’, Anemone hupehensis ‘Red Riding Hood’, Caryopteris x clandonensis Stephi, Phormium ‘Chocomint’ and Osteospermum ‘Little Writtle’ to the Plant, Seed & Bulb category at the event, which runs from September 12 until 14.
Ben Gregory, Product Development Coordinator at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford, said: “Last year we were delighted that our plant Raspberry ‘Ruby Beauty’ won the Glee New Product Award in the Plant, Seed & Bulb category. It was the first ever dwarf, patio raspberry. We hope that one of our new plants this year will also be taking home a Glee New Product Award.
“Ligustrum sinense ‘Sunshine’ has golden foliage year round and creates an eye catching display to enhance any landscape. ‘Sunshine’ is compact growing and a sterile, non-invasive cultivar. In fact, it doesn’t bloom at all, great news for allergy sufferers. It is also a fast grower so is ideal as a low-growing hedge and will perform well in full sun and partial shade.
“Anemone hupehensis ‘Red Riding Hood’ is a new deep pink/red colour in the Anemone Fantasy Series. It is noted for its extremely compact size but upholding great flower power. It is an early flowering hupehensis Anemone, which starts to bloom in July and continues all the way through until October. It is a fantastic container and patio plant, which will offer a long season of interest.
“Caryopteris x clandonensis Stephi is the first pink flowering Caryopteris to hit the UK market. Rich deep pink buds open all the way along the stem to pale pink blooms throughout late summer and into autumn. Bushy foliage makes this late flowering shrub perfect for the border.”
Phormium ‘Chocomint’ is a strong growing variety with deep chocolate brown leaves with mint green margins. It will provide year round interest, is low maintenance and suitable for planting in borders or containers.
Ben added: “Osteospermum ‘Little Writtle’ is a new, hardy variety that has been bred by the students of Writtle College. ‘Little Writtle’ is a very compact grower but maintains great flower power, producing vibrant, deep pink flowers from June through to autumn.”
Wyevale Nurseries has a significant product range and is regularly introducing new plants. It offers a large variety of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants to garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners.
